Galleria illy to Berlin and Istanbul
Galleria illy will open in Berlin on September 2, and in Istanbul on October 1
Following runs in New York (2005), Milan (2006) and Trieste (2008), Galleria illy will open in Berlin on September 2, and in Istanbul on October 1. The company’s choice of the locations reflects each city’s history as a cultural crossroads, akin to Trieste, where illycaffè was founded over 75 years ago.
As for the previous editions, the salon-like settings will blend events featuring tastemakers in art, literature, science, design and cuisine – all longstanding pillars of the illy brand – experienced with coffee prepared by the company’s top baristas, under the auspices of illycaffe’s global Università del Caffè.
The focal point of each location will be a work of art created exclusively for Galleria illy by Tobias Rehberger, winner of the Leone d’Oro at the 53rd International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia. The artist’s work for Galleria is characterized by its strong camouflage, and signals the next stage in an artistic voyage that began in 2009 with the redesign of the Biennale cafeteria and an illy Art Collection cup series, where Rehberger used optic and geometric designs in yellow, black and orange.
Galleria illy in Berlin will be located inside KaDaWe, the iconic, world-renowned department store (www.kadewe.de); in Istanbul it will be hosted at Foundation Feyziye Mektepleri’s Galleria Işık Teşvikiye. located in the Nişantaşı neighborhood, the Turkish capital’s cultural and economic center.
A complete, regularly updated schedule of events for each city will be posted at facebook.com/illy, and will feature real-time updates from each site upon opening.
