Caffè moka

Discover moka stovetop coffee, a favorite in Italian households

The most common way to brew coffee at home in Italy, the moka pot is a stovetop brewer that was popularized in 1930’s Europe.  Easy to use, the moka pot brews coffee characterized by a well-defined body and rich aroma.
The famous Bialetti-style hour-glass shape is the most familiar style, but moka pots come in many styles.
Regardless of design, they all work by using steam pressure to force water through ground coffee at approximately 2 atmospheres.

1.  Fill the base of the pot with cold water up to the safety valve and insert the filter.

2.  Fill the filter with fine grind coffee. Do not compact the coffee.

3.  Make sure the filter disk and gasket are in place in the top portion of the pot.  Screw the top section onto the bottom section of the pot and tighten to obtain a perfect seal.

4.  Place the pot on a stove on low-heat.
Coffee will begin to fill the upper portion of the pot.  When flow of the coffee begins to sputter, remove from the stove and serve.

5.  Wash the pot in water and a little mild detergent and dry thoroughly after each use.
