About one third of all food produced for human consumption goes to waste. That amounts to more than one billion tonnes of waste around the world every year.
Despite a growing attention from the academic world, civil society and policy makers, the debate on food waste is affected by a lack of a consensus over its definition and scope, the conditions that lead to its creation and the (lack of) quantification along the food supply chain. Moreover, as policies and policy proposals are emerging, there is a greater need for quantification and analysis of policy options. How can we reach a 50% reduction by 2025?
