Environmental commitment and production quality: a perfect pairing
As part of its commitment to excellence in both its product and all aspects of corporate management, illycaffè has obtained the most important Italian and international quality certifications.
The company was the first in the European coffee industry to receive an ISO 9001 quality system certification, which attests meeting set requirements in the production process. It has also received a certification of product compliance from Qualité France, a French certifying body whose policy of surveillance and control ensures consumer satisfaction.
Thanks to illy's unwavering environmental commitment, in 2003 illycaffè received the ISO 14001 environmental certification, a voluntary international regulation applicable to all businesses which defines the development of an efficient environmental management system. In 2004 came another important recognition: the EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) certification, which recognizes the environmental commitment of companies within the European Union. illycaffè, along with only 45 other food industry companies, was among the first to adopt this rigorous system of environmental management. In 2005, illycaffè won the EMAS Award for its commitment to performance improvement in all corporate environmental issues.
Over the last few years, illycaffè has made huge investments to improve its environmental impact management. These investments have allowed an increase in its differentiated waste collection and a reduction in energy consumption. As one example, in 2003 a new roasting unit was inaugurated in the Trieste plant with a maximum fume emission rate over one twentieth lower than legally allowed.
