ESPRESSO CUP - ILLY ART COLLECTION BARCOLANA

The Barcolana is a historic international sailing regatta held every year in the Gulf of Trieste on the second Sunday of October. In 2018, it officially entered the Guinness Book of Records as the Largest Regatta in the world. This year, we're celebrating it together with a special espresso cup designed by artist Robert Wilson.

Born in Waco, Texas, Robert Wilson is among the world's foremost theater and visual artists. His works for the stage unconventionally integrate a wide variety of artistic media, including dance, movement, lighting, sculpture, music and text. His images are aesthetically striking and emotionally charged, and his productions have earned the acclaim of audiences and critics worldwide.

Robert Wilson represents the Barcolana with a rigorous and theatrical composition: each element is arranged with scenographic precision in which light plays a central role, where the passion of art meets the sea thanks to primary and powerful graphic elements. The blue, illuminated by light, transforms into sky, sea and sails, bringing the event back to its essence, masterfully recounting the key elements of the regatta.
