Reforestation in Colombia

Our coffee growers’ quality of life also depends on the quality of the environment that surrounds them. In order to address this, we sponsored a reforestation project.

New life for the environment means a better life for people

Since 2013, the Ernesto Illy Foundation has funded an environmental project in the Tamara and Nunchía municipalities in Colombia.

We have restored land with native vegetation, cleaning groundwater and improving the living environments of coffee growers.

This is our way of taking care of the part of the world where we operate, forging paths towards both environmental and social sustainability.

The results of our work

By the end of 2019, our environmental project had led to

the reforestation of nearly 175 acres of land,

the installation of 76 wastewater treatment systems,

the creation of 23 structures for managing coffee pulp,

training for 99 farming families,

and training for 60 Tamara school students on good environmental practices,
taught through practical activities.
