Ernesto Illy Award for sustainable quality in espresso coffee
While travelling through the rural areas of Brazil in the late 1980s, Ernesto Illy showed coffee producers that there was a market willing to pay considerably higher prices for a superior quality product. The result was a new lease of life for the entire supply chain and the provision of tools and machines for coffee growers to ensure the success of a new type of product.
In 1991, we decided to offer an official commendation to coffee producers who chose to adhere to the principles of quality and sustainability. With this, an award was born that would go on to become one of the most important coffee quality accolades over the years. From 2008, this contest became known as the Premio Ernesto Illy de qualidade sustentavel do cafè para espresso.
Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award
The Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award, named in memory of the visionary leader of illycaffè and son of the company’s founder, celebrates the work that we have been doing every day alongside coffee-producers for almost 30 years, in order to offer the world’s finest sustainable coffee.
Every year, we select our 9 lots of the most exquisite coffees from the most sustainable sources, just for you. Thanks to the efforts of an international panel of experts, we put the spotlight on the finest coffee harvests and offer you the privilege of sampling them every month exclusively in our illy Caffès.
