Excellent machine
Excellent machine, makes excellent espresso, steamed milk and foam. Much easier to use than previous versions. Unfortunately the English section of manual is missing several pages - including the ones on how to make espresso, coffee and steamed milk LOL. We bought a similar machine last year that was missing the same pages. They're available online if you look but you'd think they'd have fixed that by now.

Great machine!
The X1 Anniversary we just got replaced an older X1 and has surpassed it. By making the machine a little taller and giving it the capability to do non espresso based coffees we now have one less machine on the counter. The controls are improved and there is less manual fiddling. Bravo!

Elegant machine that makes superb espresso
The machine itself is beautiful. Reminds of the classic machines I encountered in my early trips to Italy. The capsule system works well and avoids any unexpected drama. This is good if time is limited and the idea is to enjoy wonderful espresso and not pretend to be a sophisticated barista. I am not aware of having better espresso other than in certain cafes and restaurants in Italy.

Worth it!
This thing weighs a ton. With good reason! It's built like a tank but looks like a ballerina. Buy the individually sealed Illy espresso capsules, a little more expensive but fresh almost forever. Slide your electric froth maker close by then insert 2 capsules for six seconds each, add a little sugar (not much), pour on the froth, stir and enjoy. Way easier than dealing with my Mazzer Mini and 3 thousand dollar prosumer espresso maker.

great looking and great coffee!
Gone through several espresso machines in search of something practical and the taste I get in the coffee shops when in Italy. Bought this for the look, already had the other versions of the Francis. This makes a better coffee.
For those who do not get their coffee hot enough the trick is wait until the needle of the pressure gauge gauge go past the handle of the little coffee cup. I only tales a couple of
seconds extra after the blue light goes off.

Does exactly what it's supposed to do... make perfect Illy coffee. All accessories work like a charm. Use the right milk for the frother though, and watch out for the hot water jet, it's hot! It's pricey, but you get what you pay for, world class Expresso machine.

We bought this as a combination Christmas, Birthday and Anniversary gift to ourselves! After visiting Trieste, Italy (Home of Illy) - we fell in love with the city, the coffee and the classic espresso machines in the city. After visiting the Illy store in the heart of the city - we fell in love with this classic machine and had to have one of our own. Same great coffee as in Trieste & Turino - without the mess or trouble. A gem!

More Features, But...
I bought this machine to replace an Illy Iperespresso machine that no longer worked, and that for a long time provided me with GREAT coffee. The new machine has more features than the one that failed, an X1 FrancisFrancis, but it seems not to deliver the coffee with the same intense flavor, let us say, the coffee seems to tastes more "watery", especially if I get a "piu' lungo" in the cup... which is what I like in the morning with breakfast. I am hoping it will improve with age...
