Easy to Use and consistent Espresso
Machine warms up quickly and a press of a button and the espresso is dispensed. The Iperespresso is consistently good with a thick crema. The caffè may easily be made corto or lungo.

Excellent little machine!
I bought this as a Christmas present for my husband. I did so mush research beforehand and debated over which machine and which brand of machine to buy. I took a leap of faith with this machine, and I’m so glad I did. It takes up very little room and the coffee and espressos are amazing. I made the right decision.

Spoiled by great coffee
I bought this machine last year and I am now so spoiled with the great coffee it makes that I travel with it! I wish there was a dedicated cute Illy carrying case for it. I make the best americanos for my friends and it makes me feel fancy!

Compact, easy to operate
I have had my machine three weeks and I am totally pleased. In the past I roasted green beens, had them ground and then had to heat water and then put the hot water in a French Press over the ground coffee. The I had to wait for about three minutes for the final product. With my new machine other than filling fresh water and inserting a pod (coffee or espresso) all I have to do is wait approximately a minute and then push the appropriate button. What a convenience and the product is just as good as the French Press method.

Replacement for an X8
When I unboxed the Y5, I was disillusioned by the small size; I envisioned filling the water tank multiple times per day. Not so, it actually holds MORE than the X8 that it replaced, about a cup more!
Since it uses the same IperEspresso capsule, I figured that the espresso would be the same; I believe that it forms a thicker crema which makes an impressive cup.
It doesn't have a steam wand but I use a separate cappuccinatore and usually drink espresso, anyway.

Some problems but generally good performance
I bought a Y5 as a Christmas present for my son. When he opened it he noted that the cup holder clip was broken off. He contacted Illy and they are sending out a replacement part. Performance outside of this is good. Coffee taste is great but maybe a little colder that competitive units.

Amazing design
I have used far more costly Illy espresso makers for 15 years. We changed to regain counter space. I like not having to reach to the back to change water. Since I hate cappuccino... even though it is pretty, I don’t miss that feature.

Small Volume
I love the small size and sleek style of this machine but the volume of coffee produced by each pod, either espresso or regular coffee is very small. I had hoped the coffee pods would at least fill a mug halfway but they do not. And if I adjust the timing on the brew cycle, the coffee just comes out weak. I wish I didn't have to use up to 3 coffee pods to brew a mug of coffee!

What is up with the 'button'?!?
I have the Y5 iperEspresso machine and experience issues when pressing the single 'button', every time. It takes at least 8-10 times of pressing the button before operating will start. Does it eventually work? Yes. But, this is an ongoing hassle and frustration.

Brews well, mechanics need work
The actual quality of the coffee in this machine is great. It blows away our Keurig as far as the taste result. The mechanism that pops the old 'cup' into the trash inside the machine doesn't always work and we have to manually do this. Not that big of a deal but having this happen after only 10 days of use was disappointing. Nonetheless, we'll keep using it because the coffee is so delicious!

I bought 2 of this exact machine around Christmas time in 2016 for free when you buy the large order of coffee. I'm happy with one of them, and not the other. One makes just right amount of water for coffee and espresso, but the other exact machine come out with way to much water. I often have to turn it off just it would stop making brewing. I didn't see there's a way to adjust the water level that comes out. Overall, it's an okay machine.

Nice design but quirky operation
I've had this machine for 2 years. It brews a nice cup of coffee, but...
--capsule mechanism doesn't always flip used capsules in dispenser. Must fiddle with it.
--touch button doesn't always work. Needs several touches before brewing.
--machine vibration is such that larger cups on bottom shelf will fall right off the platform

Love it --except for the taste of the coffee
We stayed at a very nice resort in Sedona, AZ this summer and they had equipped the rooms with this coffee maker. We were very pleased, and quite surprized, at the high quality and excellent flavor of the coffee we were able to make in our cottage. I had wanted a "single shot" coffee maker for a long time and had not found any of those with which I was familiar that was accepable. We came home and were excited to order the machine. We have made numerous attempts to develope a decent cup of coffee with it but so far it is a huge disappointment. The coffee is inconsistent in strength regardless of the brew time it is set for. To get a good full bodied cup of coffee we have to limit the brew to less than half a cup(<4oz.). Our cups are 7oz and 7.5 oz, and the nice white Illy cups we bought with the machine are >8 oz. We are using the same pods we used in AZ, the "medium roast." The "espresso" pods are better but that is not what we bought the machine for. If we cannot solve this problem we will be sending the machine back. It cost too much to fail to perform.
