The Ernesto Illy Foundation and illycaffè introduce The Master’s Degree in The Economics and Science of Coffee-Ernesto Illy in Trieste, now in its ninth edition

Trieste, January 11th, 2019 – This morning at illycaffè in Trieste, the ninth Academic Year of the inter-University level one Master’s Degree in the Economics and Science of Coffee- Ernesto Illy was launched. This course of study is aimed at young students who have graduated with degrees in economics, engineering, and agricultural sciences, created to offer a well-rounded preparation with regards to everything about the product, from the plant to the cup, including the social value of the consumption of coffee and studies on the cultures of the producing countries.

The Master’s Degree in The Economics and Science of Coffee Ernesto Illy, a unique course in the world, establishes Trieste as the international focal point for the culture of coffee and is proud to offer a teaching staff who come from institutes of advanced learning, both Italian and international, such as the University of Udine, The University of Trieste, Wageningen University (Holland), The University of San Paolo, The University of Northern Colorado, The University of Ljubljana, The University of Copenhagen, and World Coffee Research. The supporting partners who work hand in hand with the Ernesto Illy Foundation are the University of Trieste, The University of Udine, illycaffè Spa, SISSA (The International High School for Advanced Studies in Trieste), the Consortium of Molecular Biomedicine (Area Science Park- Trieste), The CRTrieste Foundation, and the Friuli Foundation.

The 21 students who are enrolled in this academic year come from 15 different countries- Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Finland, Guatemala, Honduras, Italy, India, Papua New Guinea, Uganda, and Venezuela, confirming the international scope of the Master’s Degree. The courses, which cover 400 hours of classes, take place in the headquarters of the Ernesto Illy Foundation, beginning Monday, January 14th through June 14th, and ending in mid-October with the presentation of theses.
