illycaffè dedicates a special cup designed by Lorenzo Mattotti to the 52nd edition of Barcolana

Trieste, October 5th, 2020 – In keeping with tradition, illycaffè is once again dedicating a special illy Art Collection cup to Barcolana, the renowned international regatta that symbolizes Trieste worldwide. The poetic lines of Lorenzo Mattotti, Italy’s leading comic book artist and illustrator, becomes the emblem of a particularly important edition of the regatta, which rediscovers the joy of being together thanks to sailing, which for over fifty years has been the shared bond of all the Barcolana fans.

The colours of a crisp, clear day are a hymn to the joy of sailing, an image that captures the essence of the regatta. On the saucer, front and centre, is a heroic female figure dominating the wind, forcefully highlighting the central role of women in sports, and especially sailing.

Lorenzo Mattotti’s illy Art Collection cup tells of the spirit with which we are called upon to sail the seas, especially the stormiest ones, every day: with courage and energy and a touch of grace.  It is an invitation to challenge and overcome one’s limits, a universal message of harmony between Man and Nature.

“In this illy Art Collection Lorenzo Mattotti elegantly expresses the care-free feel of a day out in the sun and wind. A touch of beauty that renews itself at every Barcolana regatta. This year more than ever, this beauty goes out to everyone, even through a good cup of coffee” adds Massimiliano Pogliani, CEO of illycaffè.

Lorenzo Mattotti’s illy Art Collection cup is available starting on October 1st at a suggested retail price of € 25 from single-brand stores (illy Caffè and illy Shop) and the illy e-shop.
